Winter Break Arts Competition

Event Details

The Winter Break High School Arts Competition presented by the CTRP3 and CHRO. High School students across CT are encouraged to submit a song, poem, speech, photo, or other creative artwork exploring social justice issues from their perspective. The top three submissions will receive a prize up to a $250 gift card!

Students from any Connecticut high school are eligible to participate and submit one project. Students should respond to at least one of the following social justice prompts:

Category 1: #OFficer Friendly

Prompt 1: How do you think the police views you?

Prompt 2: Does your community have a relationship with the police?

Category 2: #School Rules

Prompt 3: How do school rules and dress codes impact how you express your race, culture and/or gender?

Prompt 4: What does the Crown Act mean to you?

Category 3: #Social Media

Prompt 5: How does social media influence your views on social justice?

Prompt 6: How are your views on race and culture impacted by social media?

Submission Details:

All submissions are due electronically no later than Friday, January 7, 2022, by 5:00 p.m. to be considered. Please submit your project to imrp@uconn.edu or ana.mitchell@ct.gov.

Competition Winner Announcement:

A virtual ceremony announcing the competition winners will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. More information will be forthcoming.
